Graduation!

Yes! After 5 years of continuous college I made it! I finished my BA in English, with a minor in Business Management! Yahoo! Graduation day was lovely, and frankly, it just felt so good to know that there were no more assigned readings in my future. I felt like a real live grown-up sitting with the other graduates, waiting for them to call my name so that I could go collect my place-holder diploma. I'm sure that my mom cried a little when I turned for a photo op. And Dad did on the inside too, I'm sure.

After all the processions and stuff Mom and Dad took me to Olive Garden, which was packed. They said that since I was a college grad now, I could pay the check. Ha. Too kind. Luckily I had my credit card on me....

So now what? Well, I spend each and every day riding my bike back and forth from my place to Baskin Robins. My goal is to get a scoop of every flavor by the time summer is up. Whenever I'm not doing that I sit really still on my couch, trying not to expel any excess energy. By my calculation I've watched over 200 hours of TV or movies since graduation. That is quite impressive since its only been 11 days...which means a total of 264 hours...which would mean that I spend 75% of all my time watching other people's live pass by. I've spent 55 hours sleeping, which comes to 21% which leaves 4% of my time remaining to be used for ice cream runs and personal hygiene. I've found many new creative ways to be economical about that though... :) I think in a week or two I'll start looking for jobs working the night shift at a gas station close by...

jk. lol.

The truth is I'm not graduated yet, and I don't even really like TV. I decided to stay in college another year to get my teaching certification so that I can be qualified to teach secondary education one day. To not graduate, when I am in fact qualified to do so, has been a small hit to my pride (mostly in being a 6th year senior next year) but I know it is the right thing for me right now. Plus, now I don't have to worry about the scenario mentioned above being a reality, since I'll graduate in something that can provide me with a job. Plus, this scenic route that I've taken has allowed me to take so many classes that I otherwise wouldn't have been able (or required) to take. I suppose that although my diploma will only reflect that I earned a bachelors degree with the six years spent, in my heart I know that I got an education that is worth far more than the paper says. So there.

hahaha love it. I totally read most of this post thinking: wait. mary graduated? I didn't think so. Just keep trucking my friend. I for one appreciate your departure from the attitude of "school is stupid, i can't wait to get out of here"
