GBOMB- December
Good, Bad, & On My Brain
Good-
- This month was magical. Luke really loves parties, holidays, and everything Christmas so each day was exciting. He was so stoked to have a birthday party for Jesus!
- We stayed home for Christmas this year, which turned out to be a blessing. We have been running pretty hard and fast ever since Nora came into our lives, and it was nice to have time to recoup and breath a little bit. It was so peaceful and relaxing, which is something I don't usually associate with Christmas!
- We started some goals this month that went pretty well. We are trying to make tiny baby goals so we can make permanent improvements rather than taking on huge goals that are overwhelming. So we made a goal to exercise twice a week, only visit social media sites on our laptop computer vs. phones, and to only have treats outside of the home, as in we could go out for ice cream, but we couldn't buy a gallon of ice cream and take it home to eat for days. All in all the exercise goal and the social media goal were pretty successful and sustainable! The sugar goal would have been if it weren't Christmas, but I have high hopes for next month.
- Andrew got a free Vitamix from his boss at work! We haven't had a blender in over a year, and our blender before couldn't chop up ice, so I am really excited about this.
- Nora started taking an antacid and it has made her so much happier! This in turn has made me so much happier.
- I finally got back to the gym after a few months hiatus!
- I rediscovered crochet- and I love it! It is really helping my anxiety as a form of meditation I think. I made a blanket for Nora, and now I am making one for Becca's baby. Then I am making one for someone in my ward who commissioned me! I feel pretty legitimate.
Bad-
- My kids (and Andrew) can't seem to get over their colds. It seems like Luke especially has had a cold since before Halloween. I wish I was exaggerating here, but I tell no lies. I am tired of the constant snot fountain and snot trails that I find all over the house. Gross.
- As much as I loved being home for Christmas I really do miss Utah and Idaho home too.
- I feel pretty isolated and stuck at home lately because of the whole having a baby thing. I am not the best at getting out and about with both kids. It seems like half of the time when I do it turns into a crying fest for one or both of the babes. It is so much easier just to stay home. However, I know that the longer I put off becoming a normal member of society again, the harder it will be. I know that if I got Nora to take a bottle that would drastically help our family mobility--but that is much easier said than done.
- Luke really needs to learn how to share and play nicely with other kids. When kids come over he spends most of the time crying because they are touching his toys. It ends up being not so fun. I am not really sure how to help besides continuing to invite kids over. Luckily he is fine whenever we go to other places. It is just at our house.
On my brain-
- For Christmas I got this eyelash serum a friend recommended that is supposed to help them grow really long. I am excited to see if it works.
- I just finished reading The Poisonwood Bible, and Mother's Milk. I really want everyone to read these books so I have people to talk to about them!
- I am really trying to decide what I can do/focus on to make 2018 an amazing year. It hasn't worked very well for me in the past to set a bunch of New Year's resolutions, so I'm looking for a new approach. I like what I've seen some people do of choosing a word to focus on for the year, I just am not quite sure how to execute that and follow up with it throughout the year.
- I love to write, but sadly it has been pushed aside over the past few years for many reasons. For a while I was intimidated by all of the professional bloggers out there. Then I felt weird putting my private life and thoughts on the internet. Then I just got busy and tired. I have come full circle now and am at a place in my life where I am ready to give more time and energy back into this hobby that has been important to me throughout my life. I am just trying to decide what it will look like during this phase.
Just for fun, here are some things I am looking forward to-
- I signed up for a watercolor class through the city parks and rec.
- The writing class I teach once a week is starting up again in a few weeks.
- Recently I discovered an app called Paprika that organizes your recipes, helps you organize them into menus, and make grocery lists from the menus. It is amazing! I am stoked to start using it more.
