Chalk it up!

Totally posed and contrived picture, if you couldn't tell.
But we had fun!

Unfortunately, this was a little too large to reasonably
play on for us short folk. There is no way that "left foot red,"
and "right foot green" could have happened simultaneously.

This picture wasn't drawn by me, but it was my ideal.
Thanks, Liz, for these pictures that I stole from you.
What do you do on a Wednesday night when the ambitious people in the ward are going on a night hike, and you find yourself too lazy to join them?

Answer: Sidewalk Chalk Party.

My roommates and I posted this on our ward Facebook page:

to which the response was not encouraging. People mostly just wanted information about the hike. WT?!

We were half joking about the veg-out thing anyway.

Instead of sitting really still we bought sidewalk chalk and decided to make some sweet chalk murals. You may note the giant Twister board above, as well as Van Gough's Starry Starry Night. This was no children's party. We aslo had a giant Jonah mural drawn at the mouth of the parking garage, a wicked sweet hopscotch game, and Four Square. Tons of people from the ward joined in the fun, and we played 4 square, hula hooped, and colored until it got too dark to continue. At this point we took the party inside and made some giant Pazookies. For those of you who don't know what a Pazookie is, think pizza meets cookie. You make a batch of cookie dough and bake it into one giant cookie the size of the pan. You bake it until it is almost done, and promptly cover it with ice cream. It is a communal dish in which every interested party grabs a spoon, and digs in while the cookies still hot.

This night was the epitome of summer for me. I love the carefree spirit that allows us to stay up late on a weeknight, and just enjoy being with people doing things that don't involve sitting in front of a screen. If the season summer were a person, I'd marry it.

Let's please fill the rest of the summer with similar adventures, yes? Okay, cool.
