PRISON

Today as I Sara and I were driving to campus I mentioned that I felt like I was being driven to jail right then.

Donny Osmond sung it beautifully when he was in jail too-

Close every door to me,
Hide all the world from me
Bar all the windows
Ans shut out the light
Do what you want with me,
Hate me and laugh at me
Darken my daytime
And torture my night

Today is the most beautiful day the year 2011 has ever seen, and I am inside, sitting at a desk, at work. Yes, the 12-4 shift, which just happens to include the most beautiful hours of the day. Summer is the season that I live for. Adult working life sucks a lot of the fun and joy from my beloved season, as I sit like a bird whose wings have been clipped.

Or like a bear who just woke up from winter hibernation, wanting nothing more than to have the sun melt the frost that has formed on my furry coat and wet nose. Or I feel like I'm a five year old who is told she has to wait for Grandma to come before she can open presents. And grandma is late....Or like I'm stuck in a traffic jam on the way to my own birthday party. Or like a much anticipated trip to Disneyland was just canceled on account of a swine flu epidemic. Or like a I'm a grounded teenager on the weekend of Prom. Or like it is the first beautifully warm sunny Saturday of the year and I'm scheduled to work.

Not to be a dramatic Debbie downer or anything...I just really love summer. :)

Beautiful asortment of similies in the last big paragraph. I'll post them on my classroom wall and ask students to identify which phrase fits them best when they're impatient for something...Like a student who is only missing one week of school till graduation! Or a teacher waiting for summer vacation! :-)
